What Are Probiotics ?

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts which are good for your body. They’re very good for digestive system. People think that these are germs that cause diseases. Your contains both good and bad bacteria. Many researches have shown that there are too many of the ‘bad’ bacteria and not enough ‘good’ bacteria. This is causes by unhealthy diet and these factors can further lead to weight gain, diarrhoea and other chronic diseases.

Probiotics are usually found in supplements, yogurt, cheese, kimchi, cheddar, pickles, parmesan, miso and other food products.

Types Of Probiotics

There are many types of probiotics and some of them are mentioned below :-

  • Bifidobacteria
  • Lactobacillus
  • B. Animalis
  • B. Lactis
  • B. Longum

Latest Research On Probiotics

Many parents give their kids probiotics to treat ‘stomach flu”. A latest study on this shows that probiotic supplements doesn’t help to ease the symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting. In research, about 1000 children ages 3 months to 5 years, gives evidence against the use of probiotics. In there study they have found that live micro organisms believed to restore the instestinal bacteria and also boost the immune system.

However, probiotics has no harmful affect on children as well as probiotics has no beneficial affect also. Researchers have suggested parents to spend money on fresh fruits and vegetables instead of probiotics.

According to researchers they have proved that use of probiotics to the symptoms of stomach flu in young patients doesn’t work at all. Some types of probiotics can be useful such as lactobacullus, rhamnosus, etc.  There is no treatment for stomach flu in children except giving them fluids to prevent dehydration. The lack of effective treatment and other options has forced parents to give probiotics to their ill children.

Stomach Flu ?

If your child has an attack of diarrhoea and vomiting and complain a stomachache, and you may think it is a stomach flu. But it is not a stomach flu because stomach flu is an infection of intestines and stomach and flu is a different problem. Stomach flu causes aches, pains, runny noses. Viral infections are mainly caused by gastroenteritis and it comes with bacteria. To treat this problem drink proper fluids.
